Someone in Sweifieh searching for an accountant is not researching. They are choosing. Local SEO in Amman is about being present, credible and reachable at exactly that moment — and it is decided by far more mundane things than most agencies suggest.
Local SEO in Amman starts with Google Business Profile
For local queries, your Business Profile matters more than your website. It is what appears in the map pack, and the map pack sits above the organic results.
Fill in everything, in both languages
Google lets you provide the business name and description in more than one language. Most Jordanian businesses fill in one and leave the other empty, which makes them invisible to half their market. Add both.
Choose the primary category precisely
The primary category carries more weight than any other single field. "Software company" and "Software development company" are different categories with different competition. Look at what the top three results in your area use.
Get the hours right, including Ramadan
Jordan's working week runs Sunday to Thursday, and Google's default is Monday to Friday. If you have never checked, your profile may be telling people you are closed on Sunday and open on Friday. Set special hours for Ramadan and public holidays too — a wrong "open now" produces a wasted trip and often a one-star review.
Photographs, updated
Profiles with recent photos receive noticeably more calls and direction requests. The office exterior matters most: people use it to recognise the building.
NAP consistency, which sounds trivial and is not
Name, Address, Phone. These must be byte-identical everywhere they appear — your site, your profile, directories, your social pages.
In Jordan this breaks in a particular way: the address exists in several legitimate forms. "Khalda, Amman" and "خلدا، عمّان" and "Wasfi Al-Tal Street, Amman" may all describe the same office. Pick one canonical form in each language and use only that.
Phone numbers break the same way. +962 79 992 090, 0799920 90 and 00962799920 90 are the same line to a human and three different strings to a crawler. Choose the international format and apply it everywhere.
Neighbourhood pages, done honestly
Amman is searched by district. People look for services in Abdoun, Khalda, Shmeisani, Jabal Amman, Sweifieh, Marj Al-Hamam. A single page saying "we serve Amman" competes for none of those.
Creating a page per district is legitimate only if each has genuinely different content: real projects in that area, travel times, parking, references. Nine near-identical pages with the district name swapped is a recognised spam pattern and will cost you more than it earns.
Our rule: build a district page when you can write 300 words about that district that would not be true of any other. Otherwise, one strong Amman page.
Reviews, and answering them in the language they were written
Review volume and recency both affect local ranking. Two things matter beyond that.
- Ask at the right moment. Immediately after you have delivered something that worked, not in a quarterly email.
- Reply in the reviewer's language. An Arabic review answered in English reads as a form letter. It is also a missed opportunity to place Arabic keywords on your profile naturally.
Reply to negative reviews too, briefly and without argument. Prospective customers read the reply more carefully than the complaint.
Local citations that are worth the effort
Being listed consistently across Jordanian directories reinforces your NAP. A handful of well-maintained listings beats fifty abandoned ones. Focus on the chamber of commerce, your professional association, established Jordanian business directories, and any sector-specific listing your customers actually use.
A local SEO Amman checklist for this week
- Search your own service plus "عمّان" from a phone, not a desktop, and see where you appear.
- Open your Business Profile and confirm both language fields are populated.
- Check the working days say Sunday to Thursday.
- Search your phone number in quotes and see how many formats come back.
- Count your reviews from the last ninety days. If the answer is zero, that is the first thing to fix.
Local SEO in Amman rewards maintenance more than cleverness. The businesses that win the map pack are usually the ones that keep the boring fields correct.
